The Foreign Secretary Rt Hon David Miliband told Chesterfield people that they faced a big choice at the next General election in a visit to Chesterfield on Thursday.
Speaking at the invitation of Labour’s Parliamentary candidate for Chesterfield, David Miliband told members of the Labour Party from across North Derbyshire that: Chesterfield was a must win seat for labour at the next election. “It [Chesterfield] is a town that shares Labour values and was badly damaged by the last Tory Government, and their attacks on heavy industry and particularly mining. The choice facing Chesterfield at this election is clear; we will either get a Labour government that believes in fairness and in supporting our economy, our public services and our families; or we get the same old Tory cuts.”
Mr Miliband, who is Britain’s youngest foreign secretary for 30 years was delighted to see so many younger members in the audience. He told the audience that the announcement by the Chancellor that there would be a guarantee of work for people aged 18 to 24 was revolutionary, and showed Labour’s commitment to young people. He invited young people across Chesterfield to join Toby Perkins campaign to win back Chesterfield for Labour, saying; “The campaigning that has been done by the Labour Party and Toby Perkins in Chesterfield is brilliant. It is a real opportunity for us to make a gain at the next election, and will be key to preventing a Tory Government. Anyone who doesn’t want to see a Tory Government must vote Labour in Chesterfield, because electing a Lib Dem MP is just one closer to a Cameron government.
