Chesterfield Child Contact Centre celebrates survival after funding withdrawal fears

Toby Perkins, Labour Member of Parliament for Chesterfield has joined volunteers of Chesterfield Child Contact Centre in  celebrating the news that vital funding will continue after fears that a withdrawal would mean the closure of all Centres across the UK.

The National Association of Child Contact Centres (NACCC)  is the supporting membership body for around 350 child contact centres and services located throughout England, Wales and Northern Ireland. It is the largest in Europe. The service allows are neutral places where children of separated families can enjoy contact with their non-resident parents in a comfortable and safe environment. Over four thousand volunteers and staff working in contact centres across the UK were holding their breath when Government funding was said to be in doubt.

After showing his daughter Chloe the play facilities and toys that parents and children can enjoy at the Child Contact Centre, Mr. Perkins praised the Chesterfield Child Contact Centre

Mr. Perkins said:-

“The Chesterfield Child Contact Centre, and the NACCC more broadly, provides an outstanding service for so many young people and parents alike. The volunteers and staff do a wonderful job ensuring that children can spend time with parents and family despite often difficult circumstances. Whilst financial pressures remain, they can move forward with more confidence, and thankfully, dozens more parents will be able to utilize their centre as an informal place to make contact with absent children.”

Linda Moore, Chairperson of the Chesterfield Child Contact Centre added:-

“Toby’s visit has highlighted the need for additional volunteers, so that more children affected by family breakdown can meet their non-resident parent on Saturday at our centre.”
