Halfords puts its foot down in spite of economic downturn

Halfords, the nationwide car auto-centre and parts business, has opened a new store on Walton Road, Chesterfield creating new jobs in defiance of the Government’s cuts, rising VAT and shrinking investment. Toby Perkins, Labour Member of Parliament for Chesterfield, was invited to open the unit and meet the new members of staff after an entire renovation of the auto centre which includes top class mechanical equipment and technology.

The local economy is also set to benefit from the company’s continued investment with suppliers and partners in the area to the tune of £20,000 a month. Five jobs will be created by the site and we also invest in the community with an industry-leading apprenticeship scheme.

Mr. Perkins was joined by the Mayor and enjoyed a tour of the building, which is one of eight new sites planned for the next eight weeks across the UK.

After completing the official opening outside the Halfords Autocentre Mr. Perkins said:

“I was delighted to open the new Halfords Autocentre and meet the new employees who have been provided with modern, advanced equipment to help provide their service. With the additional jobs this will bring to the town, and with the apprentice scheme which promises to provide training and employment within this and many other Halfords centres, this is a small yet important venture which I hope proves a success”.
