Toby Perkins MP Meets Local Scouts in Westminster

A group of youngsters representing part of Derbyshire Scouts Youth Council were invited to The Speaker’s House on Monday. The group joined 150 other Scouts and Scout leaders from across the UK to mingle with MPs at the Speaker’s reception. The event, hosted by the All Party Parliamentary Scout Group and the Speaker of the House of Commons, John Bercow, is a prestigious opportunity for young people in Scouting to meet with their own MP and others in the House of Commons.

Toby Perkins gave the group a guided tour of the Palace of Westminster before accompanying the group to the reception. The tour included a surprise encounter with Labour Party legend and former Chesterfield MP Tony Benn.

Perkins said: “The Scout Movement supports young people in their physical, mental and social development to enable them to play constructive roles in society. I am a great supporter of the principle of Scouting, which is encapsulated in their lesser known motto: ‘Do a good turn daily.’”
