Agony poised to end for Chesterfield woman

A Chesterfield woman who is living with constant pain was given new hope after her case was raised in Parliament.

Jemma Hill, 25, of Newbold, was told by specialists at Doncaster Royal Infirmary, that she needed a hip arthroscopy operation to cure her painful hip condition. However she was left disappointed when her local Clinical Commissioning Group told her that they wouldn’t fund the treatment, despite it being available to patients in South Yorkshire.

Now the Secretary of State Jeremy Hunt has promised to intervene after her MP Toby Perkins brought Jemma’s case to parliament.

Toby said: “It makes a mockery of the NHS when a GP can send you to a specialist and then refuse to fund the treatment the specialist recommends. I will be writing to the Health Secretary today and demanding that Jemma gets the treatment that she needs. It’s barbaric that a young woman could be walking around in agony because health bureaucrats deny treatment to patients from Chesterfield that would be allowed if she lived in Doncaster.”
