Toby Perkins, Chesterfield MP and Shadow Business Minister, has given his support to the Chesterfield and Derbyshire Marathon. The Marathon will take place on Sunday, September 14, in aid of children’s charity Kids ‘n’ Cancer UK, along with other local charities and good causes.
Runners can take part in a full marathon, half marathon, fun run and a relay race, where four competitors take a share of the course. More than 1,000 people are expected to take part with entries now open for all events.Mr Perkins said: “The event has real potential. Chesterfield is a great sporting town, with fantastic facilities and this Marathon will be a real asset to the calendar. I understand a whole day of events are planned which will help attract people from across the region to support it.
“I’m really excited about it, I might even enter myself! Everyone needs to get behind it in its first year to make it a huge success and hopefully go on from strength to strength.”
Chesterfield based Kids ‘n’ Cancer UK has helped more than 65 families in three years. It specialises in securing Proton Therapy treatment for young people with different forms of cancer, while helping and funding living and accommodation for patients who receive government funding for their treatment.
