MP highlights importance of staying in the EU as he welcomes German car company’s 400 new jobs in Chesterfield

Chesterfield MP, Toby Perkins, welcomed the news that German firm Ferdinand Bilstein UK has signed a deal with Derbyshire County Council to move to the Markham Vale Business Park, creating up to 400 jobs.

Mr Perkins said, “This is fantastic news for Chesterfield and more evidence of the attractiveness of our town as a place to do business. The jobs and investment that Ferdinand Bilstein bring will boost the local economy and I look forward to welcoming the company in person.”

Ferdinand Bilstein UK is an automotive parts specialist, providing parts distribution for companies like Porsche, Ford and Mercedes-Benz. The company has picked Markham Vale as the ideal site to distribute to UK and European customers.

Mr Perkins added, “This news highlights the importance of remaining part of the EU. Many people do not realise that the Markham Vale regeneration was supported by EU funding. Here in the East Midlands we received over £219m from the European Regional Development Fund between 2007 and 2013 helping create or attract 1,000 new businesses to our region, generating thousands of jobs. Ferdinand Bilstein’s move to Markham Vale is further evidence of the EU’s ongoing importance to Chesterfield’s economy”.
