Toby Perkins, MP for Chesterfield, has reminded Chesterfield constituents that they have just one more week to ensure their voice has been heard during his Listening to Chesterfield survey ‘
Toby has spent the summer recess conducting doorstep surveys in all 17 wards within his constituency, in order to hear his constituents views on issues like mask wearing, vaccine passports and other matters which he may be asked to vote upon in Parliament.
The survey, which can also be completed online, was launched to gain local views on everything from the Government’s approach to the coronavirus pandemic, the performances of Boris Johnson and Keir Starmer, to people’s opinions on a variety of local services and amenities.
Toby said, “It’s been a rollercoaster, having had to self-isolate twice and being recalled to Parliament, which kept requiring re-arrangements, but I have managed to conduct a Listening session in every single ward in Chesterfield this summer and get a broad range of opinions.
As your MP, that feedback from my constituents is so important. I wanted to hear from the silent majority not just the loudest voices on social media and as people will see when I publish the results, some key themes emerge as well as other issues which are much more finely balanced.
Toby Perkins, local councillors and volunteers, have knocked on hundreds of doors over the last few weeks, and over 700 Chesterfield constituents have now completed the survey.
Toby added, “There is still time to have your say and I want as many people as possible to complete the survey. If you have had one through your door, you can send it back via Freepost, or you can still fill it in online.”
“I always want to hear my constituents’ views, even if we might disagree sometimes! I have always taken the approach that I want to get out there and hear from my constituents. It is then my job to make my own decision, but it helps to be aware of what the public mood is on some of these questions, not just the loudest voices.”
