Chesterfield MP Toby Perkins has signed the Book of Solidarity with the people of Ukraine in the House of Commons.

Toby has received numerous emails from constituents who are worried about the people of Ukraine and in particular those fleeing for their lives.

Labour have supported introducing the hardest possible sanctions against all those linked to Putin and against the Russian government’s interests, working in a coordinated and unified way with our allies.

Although Labour welcomes actions taken by the UK, EU and US to disconnect some Russian banks from Swift, they believe that there is much more the UK government can do to cut Putin’s rogue regime out of our financial system.

Toby has previously called on the government to introduce tougher sanctions on Russian President Vladimir Putin to put pressure onto him to end his attack on Ukraine.

The Book of Solidarity will be sent to Ruslan Stefanchuk, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada in the Ukraine.

Toby stated:

“I have had an overwhelming response from constituents who are deeply concerned about the plight of the people of Ukraine. It has been disturbing to see the scenes of people fleeing the unprovoked Russian assault and of brave Ukrainians defending their country from invasion.

He added “I am pleased that I have been able to sign the book on behalf of local residents and to ensure that the people of Ukraine know that we stand in solidarity alongside them”.
