Chesterfield MP Toby Perkins is inviting everyone in his constituency to get involved in UK Parliament Week 2022, an annual event spreading the word about what Parliament is, what it does and how people can have their voices heard.

UK Parliament Week (UKPW) is taking place from 14-20 November and is an opportunity for communities to join together to find out how to make a difference on issues they care about by engaging with UK Parliament.

As well as exploring UK Parliament and ways to get involved, this year’s UKPW will also mark the reopening of Big Ben and the Elizabeth Tower after a period of restoration, with activities to celebrate this historic occasion. Participants are also being encouraged to hold “tea with my community” events to bring people together to reflect on what their community means to them.

Local groups, volunteer organisations and schools in hundreds of constituencies across the United Kingdom have already signed up to get informed, take action and make an impact. Last year over one million people took part in every nation and region of the UK, and countries all over the world.

Toby said: “I’m encouraging people in my constituency to sign up for UK Parliament Week 2022. I’m looking forward to seeing how people join in, especially in schools, and welcome this opportunity for communities to come together to find out about UK Parliament and celebrate the reopening of Big Ben and the Elizabeth Tower.”

He added “UK Parliament Week is a great way of finding out what goes on in Parliament and the work of an MP, So far, four community organisations locally have signed up and I’m hoping that others will decide to get involved”.

Naomi Jurczak, Head of Education and Engagement at UK Parliament, said: “UK Parliament Week is a great opportunity for citizens of all ages to get informed about how they can engage with UK Parliament to make a difference. Every year it’s fantastic to see so many people actively take part in UK Parliament Week. We look forward to lots of people in Chesterfield and Staveley joining in.”

People who sign up for UK Parliament Week will be sent a free kit packed with resources, including a booklet, a ballot box, bunting and stickers. There are tailored kits available for youth groups, primary and secondary schools, and adults/over 16s.
