Local volunteers in Hasland have set up a new coffee morning aimed at bringing the community together and combatting loneliness & isolation. The coffee morning, which will held on the first Friday of every month at Hasland Working Men’s Club, was set up by local resident, Christopher Newton, after he secured funding from Derbyshire Voluntary Action.
Local MP, Toby Perkins, who visited the first coffee morning, said, “I want to thank Chris and the other volunteers for this new project that will provide a hub for the community to get together. It was great to see so many people here for the first group – with people who have never met before chatting, playing games and having a cuppa.”

As well as the coffee morning, the group are organising film nights and other events at Hasland Club and hope to build up the group and its activities as more people get involved.

Toby added, “The covid pandemic has seen many people become more isolated and projects like this can really help with combatting loneliness, increasing community spirit and helping to create support and social networks. I would urge people to pop along to the next one and get involved”
