Toby Perkins MP Standing up for Chesterfield and Staveley
Children from Staveley Junior School have been tapping into their artistic side – and their festive spirit! – following a challenge from Toby Perkins MP to design his Christmas Card.
The winning design was revealed at a presentation evening held at Staveley Miners Welfare Football Club – with the brilliant artwork of the winner and six runners up on display and lots of mince pies eaten.
Toby Perkins said, “It was an incredibly tough task choosing this year’s winning design, and I was amazed by the imagination and creativity of all the entrants. It was very close but I felt the winning design, by the very talented Kaira from Year 4, really popped due to its vibrant colours meaning it would stand out amongst other cards on people’s mantel pieces.”
The Mayor and Mayoress of Chesterfield presented the prizes to the winner and runner ups of this year’s competition and were joined by students, parents, school staff and the local businesses who sponsored this year’s card. Over 3,000 cards have now been sent out to Chesterfield residents, businesses, organisations, MPs and dignitaries such as the King and Prime Minister.
Toby added, “My thanks to Staveley Junior School for taking part in this year’s competition and to Staveley Miners Welfare Football Club for hosting the presentation and providing a prize for the winner. I would also like to thank the sponsors, Weightron Bilanciai, CCS Media, CASA Hotel and the Construction & Skills People. No taxpayers funds are used for the cards and they wouldn’t be possible without the generous sponsorship of these brilliant local businesses.”
