Last week I visited Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice. They support families with children with life-limiting conditions across Derbyshire. Watch this short film to learn more.

Toby: So, today I have been at the Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice, over in North Anston. Bluebell Wood is a fantastic facility, and it serves Chesterfield. I am actually with Courtney, who’s the Fundraising Manager for Chesterfield Region. Courtney, it’s been a great visit, seeing everything that you do here. Just try and give a sense of what Bluebell Wood is all about.

Courtney: So, obviously Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice helps people up until the age of 25 years old. We support anyone with a life shortening illness. We cover mainly the Chesterfield, Derbyshire, Sheffield region, Doncaster, Rotherham and Barnsley and the surrounding areas. We help provide bereavement support, counselling, sibling support, end of life care. We have currently helped nearly 300 families out in the community but running the Chesterfield and Derbyshire region, personally I go out, work with the community and corporates to help bring in funding in my region.

Toby: For Chesterfield businesses or Chesterfield individuals who want to support the Children’s Hospice what’s your ask of them really?

Courtney:  I would just say I’d love to work with them as much as I can. It’s not also just about benefiting the Hospice, but I’d also look at ways of benefiting them as well. I ask for them just to learn more a little bit about what we do. You know, I go out and meet families in Chesterfield that we support. For them, the support is amazing that we get to help look after their children but also support the whole family. Corporates can pick us as their charity of the year, join our 365 Business Member Club but communities can go out and run a stand this Christmas and come along to our events, which is a massive help.
