Toby Perkins MP Standing up for Chesterfield and Staveley
It was a packed house in Parliament for the 32nd anniversary of The Estée Lauder Companies’ (ELC) Breast Cancer Campaign, created by Evelyn Lauder in 1992 who co-created the Pink Ribbon at the same time.
Toby Perkins, MP for Chesterfield said, “I was very pleased to join so many Parliamentary colleagues this week to mark ‘Beautifully United’, the 32ndAnniversary of Estée Lauder’s Breast Cancer Campaign and the Pink Ribbon, and to lend my support to the #TimeToEndBreastCancer campaign.
With one woman diagnosed with breast cancer every ten minutes in the UK, it’s vital that we provide support and improve treatment to those affected. It’s also imperative that women are regularly checking for the signs and symptoms of breast cancer.”
MPs were informed at the event that recent attitudinal research shows that nearly eight in ten women in the UK aren’t regularly checking their breasts, with self-checking rates lowest amongst South Asian women, Black women and young women – which is also one of the groups where there has been an increase in breast cancer cases.
A new Self-Check advice leaflet has been produced as part of the campaign and can be downloaded at www.elcompanies.co.uk/en-gb/our-impact/social/the-breast-cancer-campaign/the-importance-of-self-checking
