Toby Perkins MP Standing up for Chesterfield and Staveley
Last week will be remembered as when Parliament first voted for assisted dying legislation, but it was a busy week both in Parliament and up in Chesterfield.
Here is my snapshot of last week.

I guess that when the history is told last week will always be remembered as the week that Parliament first voted for the Assisted Dying legislation but there were also many other engagements, both down here in Parliament and up in Chesterfield. Here’s my snapshot of last week in 1 minute.
With war in Israel continuing to escalate I raised the need for International Criminal Court to be independent of politics.
I visited Derbyshire Law Centre to discuss their funding issues and the services they provide.
I raised a global failure of COP 29 to agree on emissions targets with the Secretary of State, Ed Miliband and I visited local Chesterfield business Glass Yard, to speak about the impact that Business Rates has on small shops in towns like Chesterfield.
I spoke at a panel session on delivering a net zero economy at an environment business sector briefing.
I also attended Buddy Buddy, an armed forces support group that’s held every week at Chesterfield Football Club, and I judged my annual Christmas Card competition, looking through dozens of brilliant entries from children at Hasland Junior School that will be sent to people right across Chesterfield and businesses far beyond too.
I held a Facebook Live session to discuss my approach to assisted dying and to take questions ahead of the Assisted Dying debate and on Friday I attended the entire Assisted Dying debate with many great speeches being made ahead of the momentous vote.
So, it’s been another busy week in Parliament and in Chesterfield. Hope to see you again next week.
