Toby Perkins MP Standing up for Chesterfield and Staveley
It was another busy week last week in Parliament and in Chesterfield.
Here is a snapshot of my week.
Transcript
Well, thank you for joining me for this week’s review of the work I have been doing both here in Parliament and back in Chesterfield.
I asked the Minister for Housing how he was going to ensure that the Government’s increase is house building targets wouldn’t impact on nature and our natural environment.
I met with Brookfield Head Teacher, Keith Hirst, during a recent mini tour of the school and discussed the recent improvements they’ve made and their plans to further consolidate them.
In Chesterfield, we have been badly affected by floods in recent years, I quizzed the Minister on flood warnings and how they can be made more reliable.
I went along to Brimington Dental Surgery to hear about their exciting plans to move to a larger premise and offer more NHS appointments.
We had the latest meeting of the Environmental Audit Committee where we quizzed ministers and experts on the role of the Antarctic and what Britain is doing to protect the global marine environment
and I met with the business, Better Points, who have a scheme that I’d like to bring to Chesterfield that offer local people discounts at our stores in exchange for more use of active travel.
I asked the Government about speeding up the development on brown field sites and making sure that it is done in a way that supported our natural environment.
I went along the Chesterfield Sorting Office to thank our posties and the busiest time of the year as they are getting our Christmas cards and presents out across the town
and we had the children of Hasland Junior School at the Mayor’s Parlour in the Town Hall where I thanked them for their excellent cards that have all entered my Christmas card competition.
So, it remains only to wish you all a Merry Christmas and thanks, once again, for watching the week’s review.
