Toby Perkins: Thank you, Mr Speaker. This week is National Apprenticeship Week. As Co-Chair of the APPG for Apprenticeships, can I tell the Prime Minister that employers are very pleased to see the announcements this week that will make a real difference, both in terms of the completion rate and the flexibility around apprenticeships. Does the Prime Minister agree with me that schools should be promoting apprenticeship alongside A-Levels and other options, and can he tell us what more he is going to do to support more young people to get into an apprenticeship?

Prime Minister: I am very pleased that he has raised this issue and that we have been able to give employers more flexibility over Maths and English requirements. This is really important, Mr Speaker. There are very many young people who didn’t get the maths qualification they wanted at the time, but a very well suited for the future, want to play their part and now they can get apprenticeships under the changes that we have made and that’s 10,000 extra apprenticeships. This is delivering for them, giving them a chance for the future to contribute and contributing, of course, to our economy.
